First thought I had... Are these invasive species.... Tasty? Would the complement American grass fed turf with some immigrant surf?

I am doing my part, are you?

@ZachariahtheMessiah I did call it earlier, you're not challenging any ideas, you're just calling people names. You don't actually have any ideas that are based in the source, just your prepackaged partisan responses. Sargon is far right wing... So? He has ideas that are logically consistent. The director of Starship Troopers has ideas too. I am not aware of what American Jingoism is and what it has to do with fascism, but I am really just saying, there was a terrible misunderstanding if the ideas in the book that the director made. You're probably making the same misunderstanding.

Holy smokes! They did NOT mention anthropogenic global warming ONCE in this whole episode

@phillylove7290 The mocking fascism part... Huge misunderstanding from the director and producers... The fascist/socialists were actually the bugs, the terran federation could not have been fascist. Voting was a right associated with citizenship, it appeared that this right was something people could opt out of. This suggests a democracy or at least a representational Republic. Judging by Rico's father's attitude, criticism if the government was certainly tolerated, and it appeared that private property, wealth and ownership were respected. The first attack on Klendathu went very poorly, the sky marshal was held accountable and was forced to step down. Again, a strong central leader associated with fascism would be able to STAY in power rather than be held accountable to some arbitrary set of rules. Too many clues that the terran federation was probably a constitutional Republic where individuals rights were respected, but participation and benefits of citizenship must be earned. I like these ideas too.

@phillylove7290 yeah, I know. The director never read the book. Like I said, it was a huge misunderstanding, the director obviously doesn't know fascism from freedom. I loved the cheesey propaganda details, that's what I would expect from an obviously militaristic society, but that is orthogonal to freedom and fascist style governments.

@ZachariahtheMessiah The terran federation was not fascist. The director never read the book and really didn't understand that fascist style governments don't have voting, nor are their military leaders held accountable when they screw up. Furthermore, it would seem that Rico's father was VERY critical of the government, yet had wealth and a good life despite not being a citizen. A fascist style government would send people like Rico's father to the Gulag.

@steveanton763 another example that the terran federation was not a fascist government. Under fascism, there would BE no warnings, what the morons did would have been arbitrarily illegal, perhaps just even being Mormon could be illegal. Seems that the terran federation respects freedom of religion.

@ZachariahtheMessiah https://youtu.be/kVpYvV0O7uI This guy Sargon did a really great presentation on this. He goes over all of this, and a shitload more. I just wrote a paper on it in for my history class. I got an A and my professor ended up going to see it based on what wrote. He loved the movie too, even recommended it to the entire class.

@ZachariahtheMessiah though... I also notice that you didn't challenge any of the ideas in my post... You just said I was wrong, then tried to establish that the ideas came from someone you disagree with. This is an example of bigotry, you appear to be very attached to some ideology. If I had to guess, you're just going to fling more insults and shade on any ideas I might hope to share.

@ZachariahtheMessiah Sargon is an atheist and somewhat liberal. I don't always agree with him, but I do respect his ideas. He seems to me to be very rational. However, I really don't believe that the Nazis were right wing. The Nazis were a progressive movement with radical ideas as evidence by his 25 point plan. Point 7 comes to mind... "We think that the government's first job is to make sure every citizen has a job and enough to eat." Thats a really progressive idea. A right wing person would think the governments first job is to GOVERN, maintain law and order. Read the rest of his ideas in the 25 point plan. There's a lot of intersection with progressivism there.
