You were wrong, it's not efficiency

Good point. Hydrogen and it's isotopes are remarkably hard to contain and can find their way between intermolecular gaps quite easily.

Thermal neutrons.... The ones that get blocked by the shield, the fusion on the neutron and decay of the lithium all make lots of heat. If the blanket somehow works too well, all the intended nuclear reactions and side reactions will cause the blanket to melt.

Its a very light engine that could be carried easily. Its well balanced and power dense... Seems like it would be ideal for for a very powerful backpack leaf blower or power washer.

Well, if you want to change climates, build huge off shore fields of these. The wind won't blow water vapor in land and the farms will dry out.

@DAndyLord you're more likely to whack a neutron into an oxygen, which would transmute into a nitrogen isotope for a few seconds before emitting a gamma ray photon. Water is also a moderator, so... The neutrons slow way down. This may make it less likely to activate to tritium. Besides, something here seems like we're dealing with some ionizing radiation, which would liberate lots of hydrogen anyway.

Why not build a large shallow pool deep in the desert?
