Text book definition of irony, its hilarious that he filed copyright takedown on fair use critism that he plagirizes content from other fake gurus.

Debating Sowel would be like arguing with reality.

It really depends. (I just injected a Dad joke)

Type hints are sorta like stronger typing which is pretty good... Wasn't available when I started with python, but I can see great value.

we have won the battle, but the war rages on.

Dude Arjan here is LIKELY a very wise millenial or a very young GenX. You children need to get some respect, a real boomer would make you punch out some cards for your program.

Well, this CISC and x86... The CISC architecture could be thought of several special purpose RISC subunits to decide and execute the instructions. Lots of the x86 implementations have RISC CPUs in them to do management and microcode stuff.

OMG... I love Kevlin Henney, he's funny and smart.

Rockefeller oil was also much much safer. Ironically... It was lantern oil so people could see at night.

Ok Karen.

Seeing as this is one core on an ISA that's barely old enough for middle school, this is really impressive.

I got my undergrad in Physics. Astrobiscuit documentary was amazimg and kept me enthralled way past bedtime. Well done!

RISC-V is da bomb. I followed a tutorial and designed my own core. I call it the FROOBIAN core. So... Couple of cool details. SiFive is a company spawned by the researchers who designed the original ISA. The architecture is modular and is broken into several pieces to support different use cases. For example, if you need a simple microcontroller and not much floating point math you probably just need a simple integer core. Need more math? Just add in support for the hardware multiply and divide ISA module. This is just an example, there are around 16 extension modules that can be added to your core. Modular for the win!

Good explanation on BJT transistors, but we use CMOS transistors. CMOS is fundamentally different mechanism that use similar materials but BJTs are current controlled devices while CMOS are voltage controlled devices. CMOS is a refactor optimized for on/off state. BJTs are good for analog operation amplifiers, radios, etc...

For sure, she is quite a lovely lady. Intelligent AND well spoken too.

@ExplainingComputers yeah, your review was top notch as always! Sorry for the aggressively negative post, but I was really disappointed in Khadas. Initially, I was pretty excited about their kickstarter campaign, but when they didn't respond for many weeks and they never could discuss a ship date; we backers became frustrated. They even hinted that they were working on a new faster board similiar to the odroid-n2; which I had already received a few weeks before. If I were to recommend a RK3399 board, I would say the nano pi m4. Just a better company, that's all. Thanks again for you hard work, you have a scientific impartial style that just presents the facts.

C isn't going anywhere.

Ooooo this is so cool. Stack smashing was a thing that might be related.

Excellent observation! I am a configuration engineer, honestly that is really just my title, but... yes indeed, configuartions at the top push values down into lower base classes which leads to functions with lots of args. This does reduce cohesion and can make your code a bit... noisy. Then again... some globals littered around everywhere introduce coupling...

Oh if this could be a reality in firmware motor controllers...

Buy some solar panels, a few LiFePO batteries.

C++ is not the right language for ANYTHING.
2
@NoBoilerplate that's how I know it isn't very good...
2
Excellent work, as usual!!!
2
Can another protocol be implemented?
2
Learn without an IDE. you gotta know how your compiler and linker works.
2
@ExplainingComputers yeah, I started writing that right before you mentioned it.
2
@ExplainingComputers great video btw, thanks!
2
Why wouldn't the garbage collector run in its own thread? Is that a dumb idea?
2
Jeez Louise... How do you get your hands on such nice toys? I was trying to get the Berkely out of order machine RISC-V core running on my FPGA dev board. I was also trying to get my own basic integer machine together, but... After hours of work on a decoder stage.... I kinda got a bit discouraged....

Magic numbers BAD. use a macro, damn it!

"Lord of the Functions" is Arjan's unofficial biography.
2
I heard you could run carbon based semiconductors at speeds that would liquify silicone...

Can't erase my masculinity. Even if you find it toxic. If that's the case, tough cookies.

Tiffany Meiers presents facts with no opinion. That's how the news should be presented.
2
Couldn't this just be an illusion of intelligence?

Tiffany wears a different color every night. This color works well for her.

Arjan, been awhile, this is a great video. I have been up to my elbows in Cortex-M driver code for the last few months. Lots of bit shifts or into dereferenced uint32_t memory pointers. So boring, but it works...
1
Here's a great example... You can have python logging framework output to a syslog server... It's AMAZING. Imagine a few hundred users using your stuff and you get all the usage info, who is crashing and so on and so forth.

Here i thought it was Gen-ER-ics.

I might call this the Right way.

Oooh. The PI5???

Oh. I watched this already....

If you don't want to grow as a developer, don't ever try anything really difficult...
1
Man... this channel is great!!! You're the professional I hope to be!

@ChinainFocusNTD I also love the way she emphasizes BILLions. It makes it clear that it's not millions or trillions, and it's pretty cute.

Babylon 5 was a great show. I hope humanity can live on a lovely oniel habitat someday.

That's a nuclear cooling tower in you thumbnail, not a factory. Ha ha. Just feeding the algorithm. I like your series, it's very good!! and you speak well with an accent that makes you sound very intelligent.
1
Well... I have only read two books on the actual list but several of the honorable mentions...

Arjan must be a VERY early millennial if he recalls the nightmare of PHP and VB popularity.

Armv8 is barely RISC anymore...
