Derek, you also want to go look at other standards laboratories, you might even be able to see the older standards, like the standard kilogram, which is suprisingly small when you look at it in the glass case.

Yes there is, there are weaknesses in the decoder, and the keys themselves have been leaked out. Not helpful is that there is one key per manufacturer, and you just need a few of the random keys to get the sequence roughly right and into the acceptance window. plus the fixed key systems are not too critical time wise, there is a lot of latitude in there to handle clock skew and clock drift.

And he also has to remember that, using the massmeter outside the sealed enclosure, that the IR radiation from his hand moving into view without the blocking glass there will also make it read incorrectly. Never mind actual breathing.

@johnathon007 To get that resolution you have to have very short exposures, and to get good contrast you need high intensity, so the source is a synchrotron that delivers picosecond with pulses, at massive energy, so they can get the resolution. Kind of like you putting your body into an electron beam, in that the material there gets absolutely destroyed after a few minutes.

@oliviaharris6178 Except of course those who then go into the imaging chamber, where they literally get blasted apart by ultra high energy photons. But I do like jumping spiders, though do not like some spiders, those wounds take a really long time to heal.

Pairing requires they have the same secret code, and then the learning is simply where along the long sequence the transmitter is, so the receiver can keep a similar tally of the code. There is a window of right codes that still allow operation, and this gets updated each time the match is made. Press enough times and long enough outside range and the pairing is lost.

Well, for the most common door lock systems, there are under 50 keys anyway in all variants, and for most of them the driving thing is cost. the one the builder put on is just there to keep the door from blowing open, though most home locks are just as poor as the door anyway.

Sadly the LED lamps are now built to last just as long as the ones made by the Phoebus cartel, and they are designed so that they will fail after around 1000 hours in use. done by using components right on the edge, and also by driving them as hard as possible. The same parts can be made to last nearly forever, just by derating them, so that is why you now have the Dubai lamp, designed by the outset to at least last 100k hours in use, and to be more efficient at the same time. But only sold in Dubai, as they were mandated by the king, and the manufacturer, Phillips, does not want to sell them anywhere else, as it will kill the market for them worldwide.

Each transmitter is unique serial number wise, thus the garage door still remembers the count for your one. That is why there are limits for rolling code units as to the number of transmitters, typically 30 different remotes, though you get the expanded system ( which also allows individual remote removal as well) which does 1000 as standard, and also has provision for data logging and backup of the system.

Yes, have seen my local copy of the standard kilogram, it is only 10km away from me in it's armoured vault. Also have masspieces that are only 3 steps away from it, having been verified by a massmeter that was verified and calibrated with one of the sub masters compared to the local standard kilogram. 1g masspiece that is 1g with 4 zeros after it, any more and air pressure and bouyancy has an effect on it, which is why all those tiny measurements take place in hard vacuum. The smaller masspices you cannot use in atmosphere, unless you measure your local air pressure and humidity, and compensate for the amount it bouys up the tiny masspiece, and, measuring that 100mg masspiece, simply moving your hand into view of the massmeter the IR radiation from your hand will make a change in the measurement. Nice when the company coming in to do the verification uses your own masspices, simply because they have a fresher certificate, and they look at the long term drift and can see no trends, except for the one where it jumped up by 0.5g, which was because, a week before they went in, I took them stripped the paint off, and then gave them a new coat of primer and black, leaving a week in heat to flash off solvent.
