@steak5599 This is the company who decided that making the Pinto safe was too expensive, and when forced to test again specially imported a Canadian made model for the test, because it had been forced there to do the changes.

@demanischaffer At least they came back, the new "replacements" would have been lost airframes. Coming back with half the airplane full of holes, missing big chunks, an engine and no hydraulics was common, and they were relatively easy to repair as well with only the front line crews. Modern aircraft are more of "one pass haul ass" over the Warthog staying around and chewing up whatever is in the sights till it is no longer a hazard.

@srelma A lot faster, heavier hitting power, and a lot less vulnerable from attack because they can go fast and low. Helicopter has a problem of noise getting ahead of it, and a very fragile blade structure so it is very vulnerable. The Afghanis figured out the weak point of a helicopter is the top, and thus would climb high in the hills, and fire down at them, hitting the unprotected tops of the engines and rotors. A10 has armour on top, and in most cases is not going to be in position long enough to aim and fire, plus the speed means most rounds will fall short. Fire down and the guys up high will see you, and the next pass back will make you the target for some serious retaliation.

Fun thing is that the Gameboy also was incorporated into industrial controls, as a cheap easy to use display and processor. There were a few systems developed around it to do things like logging, graphical display of voltage and such, using the small form factor, plus the 32k of address space available in the system, and the Z80 processor that ran it, so you could get simple to interface systems, all in a cartridge and some glue logic.

One possible explanation might be experience of the driver. Small car, likely first new car, relatively young inexperienced driver, and driving slightly riskier than an older more careful risk adverse driver, plus driving at excessive speed for conditions, simply due to lack of experience in stopping distances, turning and braking efficiency in the driver.

@d1g1ta1flux7 All of them are also designed to not produce flame ( unless you have Tataka defective ones) just hot nitrogen gas, so they do not actually get hot enough to light fires. The light bulbs are better for starting fires, unless they are all LED.

They also had abort locations all round the world, just in case. Not only Europe, but also Africa and Australia. That Nomex felting was also, ISTR, not made by any US company either, there was only one supplier for it.

Do not forget the fly by wire means that the pilot is merely giving a suggested input to the computer, that then has the job of keeping it stable in an inherently unstable, and thus nimble, fighter aircraft. That is a development that went from the military to civilian aircraft.
