  1. Recipe is useless without the way you do it. Just like making a cake is to take sugar, water, flour, baking powder, eggs, milk and butter, plus some minor ingredients like cocoa, salt and vanilla, but you really have to know how to mix them, and in what order, to make something that will actually look like a cake.

  2. Well, you get ionisation switches that go into the MHz repetition range, used for some military radar systems, so expecting less of air is no problem. Also some gas filled tubes would be quite happy oscillating at over 30MHz, so the gas ionisation must be capable of being quenched as fast.

Plus in the closing you can see the anti collision beacon on the tower far out of frame, out of focus, but still showing the pattern in it from clear air turbulence on the path to the camera, and all those patterns you see in the round dot are the disturbance of small temperature changes, and air motion, along the path. The source is a very good approximation of a point source, seeing as it is a LED cluster that is likely only 4 pixels if it was focused at infinity, but with the focal plane being so much closer it shows the great optics of the lens, in that the image is a perfect circle without any other distortion on it.

Also you can get the slow motion display simply by varying the readout rate for your raster display, obviating the need for the slow motion camera, plus the modern versions can sort of do flood filling, by drawing multiple lines in an area, to fill it in, and letting the eye integrate the lines into a solid block.

  8. You need to try again with the cheapest fake capacitors you can get from Aliexpress, especially the bigger can types. Note they do tend to explode rather violently, so do it with appropriate blast shielding, and keep Electroboom away from the variac........ If you really want flames try using some tantalum bead capacitors, those will go up like matches, and are often used as model rocket ignitors.

  11.  @Ruhrpottpatriot  Why bother, was easier to just get it from the railways ready to use. We were more interested in other organic chemistry, especially the longer branched chains, though there are a lot of short molecules of interest as well.

  14. Would get more velocity on the goose if you went to 2in pipe and valves for the air tank, less dynamic pressure loss, and also if you went for a full bore 2in valve to handle the pressure. Much better and faster opening if you used an air operated butterfly valve to open it, and a separate 8 bar tank just to slam that big valve open fast.
