@motleydude73 10 and 15k intervals is the manufacturer saying that the engine will make it out of warranty with that change interval, with only a tiny amount breaking within that time and distance. Keeping the car shorter, keep to the interval, want to keep it till it falls apart change more often, and you will see the difference.

@motleydude73 They also say that things like plugs, and non motor oil, is a lifetime thing. Yet plenty of automatic transmissions and CVT fail just outside warranty. The manufacturers have tested, and found, that lifetime, and also the minimum level of service required to reach it without failure. Yes there are outliers, like the car that is driven long distance, dry climate, all the time, which reaches a million miles, but the same one next off the line, nominally identical, is driven short distances, wet climate, and the engine and trans die about the same time as the body does, with the same service intervals.

@motleydude73 Renault Citroen Peugoet and Nissan had it down to a fine art, making a car that would basically fall apart after 7 years in the typical EU driving cycle. They never sold them in the US market for some reason, but garnered a bad reputation in the rest of the world for that.

@motleydude73 Agree with that, sister had a 1990's Nissan, and that thing just ran, till it got stolen. However was not built in the EU, but in South Africa, where they build them a lot tougher to survive local conditions. The old saying is that with a locally built Toyota everything keeps falling off, but the engine and drivetrain keeps on rolling along. There are thousands of Toyota Quantum minibus taxis that have rolled over the million mark, a few times, along with old E20's and Super 16's as well. The competition does not make it that far.

If you live where there is no snow the 0W16 oil will work fine, as the engine oil with 0W8 is really for cold climates, and for fuel economy, as the engine is not really much changed for the last decade, where it was fine to use 10W30 oil, but the lighter oil relates to a slightly better fuel economy in testing.
