  1. I wonder if the chaebols of South Korea were inspired at all by the zaibatsu of Imperial Japan? Especially given that Korea had been occupied by Japan for 35 years (and a lot of the early South Korean leadership had collaborated with this occupation)...

  4. @Pig Kimjonun I expect though that due to the bitterness that Koreans feel about the Japanese occupation, a lot of them would get angry at suggestions their modern society has been influenced by Japan even if those suggestions were actually true!

Pretty much all the East Asian manufacturing success stories owe it to the Vietnam War, because it was supplying that war that resulted in the introduction of standardized shipping containers: offshoring to East Asia wouldn't make sense without container shipping because the transport costs would be prohibitive.
