@valiant9563 I thought the concern about attacking Russian oil infrastructure wasn't that it would risk a nuclear response, but that it would help Trump retake the White House by causing gasoline prices to skyrocket in the US.

@OKEAHKPACA-pd1gl While here in the UK most of our Russia-sympathisers are on the far left (*cough* George Galloway) in many other Western countries (including the US and France) they are predominantly right wing.

@ingoditrust7784 That would explain why some political leaders support Russia (although I suspect blackmail is actually more important than bribery). It doesn't explain why millions of ordinary (for example) MAGA Americans would support Russia.

@tanyaroberson9629 Even if Russia is conventionally a paper tiger, it still has the world's biggest nuclear arsenal.

@JakeBroe I suspect the US anti-environmentalist Right (ie the kind of people who might be into "rolling coal") see Russia as an ally because it is a country that will oppose climate action for two reasons (because its economy depends on fossil fuel exports, and because it is the coldest of the world's major powers).

@tanyaroberson9629 I'm not suggesting that Russia could actually win a nuclear war, so much that the West is afraid to resist Russia too aggressively for fear that Putin (believing his own personal death is imminent anyway) will use his nuclear arsenal to play Samson in the temple.
