  6. The use of depositor's money to fund the military reminds me of the "silent financing" of the Nazi war machine during the earlier years of WWII. Germans were by then earning good money but they couldn't spend it due to rationing, so they put it in the bank, allowing the Nazis to "borrow" it for the duration. (Of course the Nazis also fooled middle-class Germans into saving 5 marks a week supposedly to buy them a Volkswagen, only the money was actually used to buy Kubelwagens for the army instead.)
