@slezerpezer Joe Biden did a great judo move by hanging on (and thus convincing Trump he had an easy win ahead) for just long enough for Trump to end up with (I wouldn't say "pick" as I think he was more the pick of Putin and Thiel) JD Vance as his running mate: a candidate who has essentially no appeal outside the existing MAGA base.

@Kath-nd6pj The treaty of Montreux only allows Turkey to control whether or not warships can come in or out of the Black Sea: it doesn't allow them to discriminate between countries.

@mal2ksc Just as France needed separate Atlantic and Mediterranean fleets (due to British control of Gibraltar) and the pre-Panama Canal USA needed separate Atlantic and Pacific Fleets, so Russia's geography means they need four separate fleets: a Northern Fleet in the Arctic, a Baltic Fleet, a Black Sea fleet and a Pacific fleet in Vladivostok.
