  5.  @Katoshi_Takagumi  Putin wouldn't be deterrable by western nukes if he thinks he's going to be lynched (like Mussolini or Gaddafi) anyway. In that circumstance he would certainly chose death by nuclear holocaust over death by lynching as he'd get to drag the West down with him. As Winston Churchill put it "the deterrent does not cover the case of lunatics or dictators in the mood of Hitler when he found himself in his final dug-out". The flaw in this manner of reasoning is that the ICBMs almost certainly cannot be launched by Putin personally, and thus would have to be launched by military personnel who (unlike Putin in this scenario) actually do have something to lose.
