  2.  @GARDENER42 Ukraine wasn't going to join NATO prior to 2014 because half the country was pro-Russian then.

  3.  @GARDENER42  Wasn't pretty much every electoral map of pre-Maidan Ukraine split between a pro-Western, mostly Ukrainian-speaking west and centre and a Russian-speaking pro-Russian east and south? Of course pro-Russian sentiment in the Russian-speaking areas crashed after Maidan, mainly because people there saw how nightmarish conditions were in Russia's puppet states in the Donbas.
