  1. Isn't one difficulty with Arabic that it isn't really one language? Arabs (except for a small fraction of ultra-pious types who do it to prove a point) don't actually speak the "official" Arabic language (aka "fusHa") but rather dialects which have no official status, but which are roughly the "Romance languages" to fusHa's "Latin".

  2. Aren't Arabic-script languages more difficult because the script omits most vowels?
