jackson I suspect that both the Aztecs and the Vikings are romanticized mainly by their modern-day ethnic descendants.

@billjackson8641 -- by "gangs" do you mean Mexican drug cartels?

@misspamba1 -- stoning for adultery actually started with the ancient Jews. In the Quran's version of the Nativity story Mary didn't have Joseph to give her an alibi: she gave birth to Jesus out in the desert under a date tree (not in a Bethlehem stable as in the Bible) before having to return to her people. She would have faced dire consequences if the newborn Jesus hadn't spoken up in defence of her virginity (for Muslims, speaking as a newborn baby was Jesus's first miracle).

@patriciarowe3431 -- to me one of the most "demonic" cultures which has existed would the Aztecs. I doubt many shed tears for them.

@endzeitx -- IIRC the Ottoman Empire only carried one stoning for adultery in its 6 centuries of existence.

Islam is very big on the male breadwinner ethic (see 16:08 here) – if a man is slugging his guts out to provide for his family, it's not too surprising that he'd be deadly serious about making sure his wife doesn't cheat on him!
