  3.  @Jldizzle1  most forms of slavery in other cultures were for set amounts of time, like a prison sentence, the type of slavery american's implemented was "we own you and your family for life" in the ottoman empire slaves could become a janissary, a highly respected warrior, in africa slaves could escape and were then free, americans employed troupes to hunt down runaways, and even if you were freed by your master you could just be kidnapped and sold again, americans took slavery to a different level
