  1. Now I understand the deal my friend has— the owners are working outside the country. Their first tenant let his dogs destroy the place. My friend lives rent- free but pays all the utilities and has been repairing damage, replaced windows and appliances and flooring, planted trees, put in a garden. Much better than leaving it empty, open to squatters.
