  2. To save on groceries, skip as much of the processed foods as possible. Learn to cook. I hit a different grocery on my way home from work each day. I check for 50% off things- I never buy meat, fish or chicken at full price. Five dozen eggs at Grocery Outlet for $10- make frittatas, quiches with whatever veggies are on sale. Buy a whole chicken to roast, shred the meat to use for different dishes. Easy to make fajita mix from scratch. Curry spice is cheap at Indian grocery. The chicken carcass can be boiled to make broth ( bone broth is expensive to buy). Freeze things to use later. Dried lentils and other beans are cheap, great for soups. Free veggies can be foraged and frozen. Like nettle and purslane and dandelion- more nutritious than spinach. Asparagus grows wild and I pick and freeze that. Check the neighborhood for fruit trees and berry bushes that aren’t getting picked- ask property owners for permission to harvest. Applesauce is easy to make and you can use as a substitute for oil in many baked goods. Quick bread recipes are easy and you can add things like bananas that are overripe. You can make great pet food from scratch and freeze into serving sizes. I made a very short video on dog food. Over the years this will save you a fortune on vet bills. Another way to save on vet bills is to check Veterinary Secrets channel. And rural vets are sometimes far less expensive than city vets because the overhead costs are less. I carry a thermos of coffee or tea or cocoa with me so I never have to pay too much for such things when I’m out. I bring my own lunch to work. I have friends who spend $300 a month or more at places like Starbucks. Baby formula- another thing you can make yourself that is far better than commercial stuff. There are websites on this - I made a short video with links under it, don’t even have to watch it, just check links. I made a few videos on side hustles I’ve done, these also have links in the pinned comments. I’ve tried selling on OfferUp - around here it seems to be a waste of time. Some people do OK with Mercari and Poshmark. These apps take a cut and then there’s postage if you are shipping- I’m trying to do just lical because it’s not worth it after everyone takes a cut. Save money on cleaning supplies- use vinegar. You can make detergent from a few cheap ingredients, many videos on this. Vegetable oil may be cheaper but olive oil is worth the higher price, much healthier. I always look for it on sale and keep it in the freezer until I need it. I hope something in my list helps someone. 😂 A foraging book pays for itself after your first gathering expedition. You can make pesto with all sorts of greens, not just basil. Same with a good cookbook like The Joy of Cooking if you are a beginner. . I have one called 400 Soups and another on hundred pasta recipes. Canned California black olives are not worth eating. I buy Kalamata olives at grocery Outlet when on sale. Actually good for you as well as tasty. I just watched a documentary on how much groceries cost in northern Canada- I don’t know how they manage.
