Well, I know everyone wants to blame corporations, government, or even cronyism. But I think it's the culture. Americans are obsessed with gambling, looking high status, and colorful fun food. Gen Z if anything is a generation that is the most obsessed with these three. They complain about inequalities, but they'll scream if you tell them that they shouldn't be allowed to gambling stock options on their smartphone.

This is why people are trying to bring up the issue of (walkable infrastructure) in the US. I'm from the Midwest and everybody knows that you pretty much can't walk anywhere; unless you want to walk in the grass on the side of the roadway.

Well, there's two issues going on simultaneously with walkability. First, the US is insanely large. Second, residential areas are NOT built for foot travel. I'm hoping that changes in the future.

I agree, however there are some issues. The US is a massive places, but as someone from the Midwest; you can't really walk anywhere unless it's an older town with older infrastructural plans. Newer residential areas are literally built to keep you contained and you must use a car to visit anywhere. Less you want to walk miles and miles in the grass on the side of the roadway.

@Un1234l I'm certainly optimistic, but it will take the larger culture to embrace it; not just one man.

Yep! MLMs, startup apps, and gigs are NOT innovation. It's using existing corporations to create new extensions of the corporation.

@clawwestfall8799 That's actually false; the calorie counting strategy has been largely dismissed for over a decade at this point. Yet somehow people are still trying to push it; like the food pyramid. Calorie counting doesn't take macro quality into account whatsoever. Your metabolism can't process all calories in the same manner; some can't be processed whatsoever (no matter what calorie value you attach to them). It's like putting 87', 89', Vodka, or Canola oil into your gas tank. It will still run on Canola oil or Vodka, but you mileage will go down by 70% and probably begin to ruin your engine at the same time. With that analogy in place; soy oil, corn oil, and sunflower oil are in virtually everything. All three of which can be measured by a similar caloric value, but none of which metabolize in the human body properly. This has already been observed in animal studies.

Docile? That's hilarious. Try taking that iPad away and you'll see how DOCILE these kids are.

More innovators and less problem solvers essentially means that innovation spirals forwards, BUT the ability to tie up loose ends crumbles. This allows inequalities to run out of control a destabilize economies.

Yep, we had to cut out the restaurants. I started to become sick over the last several years and had huge bloat. Now I eat all organic; mostly potatoes, meat, and fruits.

People can blame McDonalds all they want, but the reality is that the FDA and CDC are bought out by these corporations. We actively have thousands of carcinogens in the food supply and hygiene products. It's not that the agencies aren't aware of this; they simply get paid to look the other way. I mean, if you're working at say Bath and Body Works; chances are that you're developing cancer breathing in those neurotoxins all day long. At the same time, a considerable amount of your food has additives. Even you Walmart butter has (natural flavors) added. Which is a composite list of over 1000 ingredients that corporations have lobbied the government in order to get them classified that way so that it's less suspicious. Easily among those additives are the very common lab made flavors and monosodium glutamate (MSGs). If you feel the need to go back to a restaurant or fast food joint against your will; then you're stomach bacteria have probably been corrupted with MSGs.

@Derekjordanger That's an old fallacy. Calorie doesn't take quality into account. Your body has to metabolize these calories and many of them are harder or impossible to metabolize. Ex: Soy, Corn, Sunflower oils.
1
@damiansconberg4715 Assuming counting calories fixes that, which it doesn't really. Counting calories doesn't mean anything if you can't metabolize the calorie.

Because the corporations and politicians are in bed together. This is primarily why many people want to get rid of the FDA and CDC. Typically, people would sue companies that caused harm, but corporations actively USE the FDA in order to get their product approves and promoted. It also becomes increasingly hard to take them to court. It's all about corporate capture and the FDA is (without a doubt) captured by big business. Same thing in every industry. It's the reason you have SWAT raids on farms trying to sell raw milk. People in power want to create monopolies for their business domain and they will use government to get it.
