He says it’s a mild condition. l know he has it, and he competes at a high level, but that bothers me. Lots of ignorant people say that word - mild. The difficulties and challenges in the lives of aspies can be insufferable.

@readifdumb But if you you can't get a job, socialise, assert to yourself or function well generally, that is actually a very serious problem. For a high IQ person not to do well in life, is hard to explain, very ironic and causes a lot of suffering. It is even a deeper philosophical question for people in general to ask, if they are not too small minded and selfish. Like, what are they doing with their lives then? How is it right? Though not all of my main problems are (necessarily) ASD.

@alfrediversen3338 I'm diagnosed with it myself. My point is that it's wrong for people to downplay the difficulty, or even hint at it, in my opinion. It's not fair to be an expert on somebody else's problems, even if it is meant as a compliment.

Perhaps it used to be less taboo. Perhaps taboos were a matter of personal choice, to be open about. But without going off topic, perhaps life used to be better when a place (or job) was found for the quiet bookish type, in a squarer simpler sort of age.

@readifdumb So you work in computing? That's ok if society, certain employers and the people you know, enable that. Definitely not so easy for someone who doesn't have those marketable loner skills.
