  1. I didn't understand that, either, and plan to do some research of my own. Fortunately I have some good friends in that part of the world who might be able to better explain it. I'm not sure what one would expect a superpower to do if another country allowed the vice president to be kidnapped and potentially killed by an angry mob.

  2. In fairness, Bush 43, Obama and Trump all visited Afghanistan under extremely risky circumstances. I'm sure there were special forces in place and more advanced security measures, but a war zone is a war zone. Just flying into Afghanistan is a brave thing to do for a US President.

  3.  @brianreddeman951  - It was settled in the Webster–Ashburton Treaty of 1842, about 20 years after the "war." It basically just split the small area in half. I believe Canada got a little more land than the US, but agreed to give the US some land along the border in Minnesota to equal things out.
