The Russians still haven't caught on. The inside of their tanks, IFVs, APCs, etc. are outrageously uncomfortable and some even unairconditioned. Obviously, not a problem for stronk Russian men! Except, it is – for every human being on Earth. Fatigue, back injuries, lack of mobility, and poor morale are issues to this day in their motor divisions. This same attitude translated into aircraft, as the Russians to this day seem to view planes as "flying artillery" rather than a system of systems that all contribute to combined arms tactics. Their entire military is currently getting beaten by a couple dozen hand-me-down HIMARS launchers, lol.

It refers to weight, not size. But, even in the case of the F-35, this only applies to the B variant (STO/VL) due to its lift fan, thrust vectoring engine and all of the parts that run it. Really, this variant should've been developed separately and, who knows, called the Harrier III, or something. No internal gun on the F-35B either... it's podded – very slickly podded, but podded.

And even USAF Phantoms didn't get an internal cannon until the echo variant. They had podded guns just like the USMC planes did. What a mess.

@SealFredy5 Agreed it was the cheaper way to go. But not the most practical or effective way to go, considering its limiting effect on the remaining two variants.

Ehh, not really. China's J-20 is a low observable interceptor, with the mission of firing long-range air-to-air missiles at AWACS, tankers, ISR platforms, etc. It's certainly not a particularly maneuverable plane. China, in a conflict, will still use its Flanker variants for air superiority missions. The J-20 has a narrow mission set that largely mirrors the intent of the MiG-25, adapted for modern applications.
