@yangyangpeng5279 - Funny, just as the Japanese converted their government to one that is free, open and democratic, the Chinese converted to an authoritarian system that has likely imprisoned, disappeared and extrajudicially killed thousands (millions?) of its own people in the decades since. The Chinese government is the most evil incarnation of authoritarianism the world has ever seen. If you ask 100 people if they'd rather live in Japan or China for the rest of their lives, 99 percent are likely to choose Japan. I understand the Chinese live in a dystopian world where the government tracks, monitors and censors every aspect of daily life, but it's stunning (and sad) that so many people do not demand human rights, if based on nothing else but their own personal observations.

@user-lq1dk6gr3p - It's a joke based on US labor laws.

You'd probably be surprised at what the US Army Corps of Engineers could build in an emergency.

@obsidianstatue - China's insistence on worship of the state and control of its own people by packing them into ultra-dense urban areas where they can be micromanaged is partially to blame for this. There is a point where places stop being cities and begin to become prisons with virtual walls. The dystopian Chinese state can build a modular building quickly, but what has this accomplished? They set themselves up for something like this, but what people have to remember is that the government does not value the lives of its citizens – they only value the continuity of the party and the regime. So having people die of a virus is "worth it," so to speak, if the party's larger vision for the country and its survival can be achieved in the long term.

@adolfhitler2026 - Huh? Worship of the state? Most people in America can't stand government and fight for fewer regulations and intrusion into our lives. Have you ever been to the US?

@adolfhitler2026 - I think your view is a bit inaccurate. I'm sure that the media in your country portrays the United States in such a fashion, but the reality is quite different. The Iraq war was unpopular from the start, and most Americans vote for candidates who want to end foreign wars. I think most Americans would be happy to pull out of Europe immediately, except Europe refuses to spend money on its own defense.

array s - He "lost" the popular vote due to the usual fraud perpetrated by the Democratic Party.

But wait, what about the environmental impact statement, the lawsuits that will be filed by environmental groups after the EIS is filed, the eminent domain fights over easements, the development of bid specs and solicitation, the formal award of bid, selection of bond counsel to handle the capital outlay, the negotiation with labor unions on construction costs. Dealing with this stuff every day in the US, this would be an unmitigated disaster here.
