  1. There's a politically incorrect answer here as well. Many people I know do not like the clientele with which they fly on these airlines (bringing outside food on board, noisy, general discourteous behavior) and find the legacy carriers to be a "smoother" flight in terms of dealing with being in a flying tube filled with other people. A lot of people I know would normally have no interest in paying extra for biz or first class, but just find it to be less chaotic.
