Haiti proves that some corners of the world are functionally ungovernable. Haiti is a long-lost cause, and no amount of money nor attention has ever fixed anything. As an American, I want to make sure that none of this insanity makes it to our shores. The new administration can't get here fast enough.

Anyone who thinks Haitians can assimilate to American society should look up the town of Belle Glade, Florida. The size of a postage stamp, but the murder rate of a war zone – after decades of Haitians having settled there. It's one of the smallest, but most dangerous, no-go zones in the western world.

@irresponsibleparent3 The U.S. holds gold for plenty of other countries, as do other states with secure physical places to do so. If Haiti wants gold back, no problem. Who should we give it to? "Barbecue" the gang leader? He's about the closest thing they've had to a head of state in three or four years. For all we care, he can have it.

There IS no state of Haiti. They haven't had a president in years. It's a lawless half-an-island with the people on the other half praying day and night that their border is secure and it won't destroy their economic progress.

@kreiner1 Are you willing to sacrifice your son or daughter to fight Haitian gangs and govern a population that refuses to consent to any governance or law and order? I don't have kids, but I sure as hell wouldn't if I did.

@kreiner1 A "more safe and secure US" will be achieved by aggressive patrols by the U.S. Coast Guard, not by parachuting into a hell hole and trying to fix it out of some misplaced sense of altruism that has failed countless times in the past.

@Kaiserboo1871 The last three U.S. presidents were elected on NOT engaging in nation-building. Americans have no interest in sacrificing their lives or wallets for this nonsense anymore. Iraq was the last straw for an entire generation of people who see no utility in getting involved in messes we have no business inserting ourselves into.
