  1. Just a little addition - the B-1 is no longer capable of carrying nukes. It was part of a treaty between the U.S. and Soviet Union, and remains in effect. The Russians inspect the planes every year on American soil to determine compliance. In return, the USSR agreed to remove the air-to-air refueling capability from the Tu-22M bomber (so it could not reach the United States), and likewise, the U.S. is able to inspect it every year to ensure compliance. Now, would it be possible to rearm the B-1 with nukes in a war? I suppose, but the question is how long it would take and if the platform even matters since the B-2 and F-35 will both be able to carry out nuclear strikes. Then there is the B-21 Raider which will take over the role in a few years.
