@stephengrant4841 - The issue is that there's a breaking point in the US. Right now, we're at a tipping point. If Google, Apple and Amazon share enough data with the government and it begins having tangible effects on every day life (access to travel/movement, etc.) there will almost certainly be public outcry to break up these companies and courts will limit access. But at the same time, this is what many fear about so many Democrats (once a rather centrist party that supported classical liberal thinking) being taken over by avowed socialists. An obsession over collectivism drives this very behavior – ie. everyone needs to be on the same page when it comes to ideology, so conservative thought is labeled as "racist" or some of the other terms we hear these days and is eventually criminalized. It has started on a small scale and must be stopped in its tracks.

@AtlasReburdened - I don't think communist regimes look too kindly upon "trimming government."
