  1. Puerto Rico could have been a state long ago, but the citizens never voted in favor of it. They were given the options of full independence, becoming a U.S. state or maintaining the status quo. They chose to keep things the way they were, which actually makes a lot of sense from their perspective. That is probably how I'd vote if I lived there.

  3. My small suburb in Florida has a bigger population than Greenland. No offense to the good folks up there, but they really have no mechanism to veto anything.

  4. The fact that Denmark is an ally will certainly benefit the U.S. by making it easier for Americans to invest there, but the tax revenue is going to Denmark, not America. The real money is in the "vig," as they say. Now, if Denmark requires assistance from the American military for air defense, naval defense and running diplomatic interference, there may be some room for negotiation.
