The French aren't that reliant on US weaponry. That has been a central part of French identity and culture. The U.S., however, is not in a million years going to stop supplying a military it has intertwined itself with for the last several decades. There are a gigantic number of U.S. systems that are made by U.K. companies. The F-35, the backbone of the USAF, needs British tech and sensor systems, plus other essential aspects. If the U.K. goes under, a lot of U.S. power goes with it. When push comes to shove, the U.S. knows the U.K. will always go with them (and bring its international influence to bear) and France, frankly, just isn't that important to the Americans. They don't even sell French cars in the U.S.

Has anyone here ever actually been to Gibraltar? The Spanish would probably regret the headache of taking it. The electrical and phone systems are all British (break out those plug converters!), the communications networks are all British, all of the companies that operate there are British, everything is printed in English and the instability would ultimately lead to an even larger area for narco-trafficking to exist as an extension of La Linea, and from illegal immigration from Morocco all the way up toward Tarifa. Gibraltar exists perfectly fine as it is – I don't see why the UK would want to get rid of it nor the Spanish take it over.

Wouldn't be surprised if there are still some Harriers mothballed somewhere too.
