The problem as far as affordability goes, as well as institutional knowledge: China started dominating the private sector with consumer drones first, and the tech has been built upon by military specialists. The U.S. has never really mass-produced consumer drones with advanced tech for an affordable price, and if all of this is going to be created bespoke for the military, it will take forever to trickle down to a private sector that ultimately funds the public sector. We got our capitalism and communism backwards here!
