@ahmedlightsauraziz7355 - There is a big difference between "detecting" a plane, and tracking it, locking on, and firing upon it to score a kill. The F-35 also has very, very potent jamming systems, and is networked with other assets, meaning one pilot could turn on his radar and transmit targeting information to his buddies who are still flying undetected. Even the S-400 really cannot see an F-35 until about 20km out. I know Russia avoided stealth for years (they preferred producing planes that looked cool at airshows) but they're now far behind as the rest of the world is planning more fifth and sixth-gen fighters, and their Su-57 seems to be all but dead. They miscalculated, big time.

You guys are still patting yourselves on the back because you shot down one plane 20 years ago that was more attributable to pilot error than anything else.

Well, Israel flew their F-35s into Lebanon and Iran without being detected. They even posted a photo of one flying calmly with the Beirut skyline in the background. The results seem pretty good thus far. A significant number of Flankers have been in Syria but that campaign has focused more on legacy bombing/attack platforms like the Su-24. There really isn't a significant need for air superiority aircraft to be deployed in large numbers in Syria. The enemy doesn't have an air force, and the U.S. isn't there to shoot down Russians.

vann tedd - You have to remember that many of these reports were written years ago before the F-35 was flown, evaluated by the pilots/aviators themselves and improved. When the F-35 was first activated, pilots were flying it as they did their 4th-gen aircraft. They also found that the computer systems took too much control away from them, and government bean-counters prohibited them from pulling the maneuvers they would employ in combat. That has all since been fixed, for the most part, despite what we hear from the American press which is so hell-bent on shitting on their own country.

The AIM-260 is replacing the AIM-120 in a few years. It will exceed what the Meteor can do, as well as things like the PL-15, etc.
