@daniels1263 - Well, technically they do need America there, if we're taking this scenario literally.

@cholera4858 - I'm glad you feel this way. When The Venezuelan National Assembly requests U.S. military assistance in overthrowing Maduro, I'm sure you'll be making the exact same case. ;)

Ireland barely has a military. Their "air force" consists of a few SAR planes and helicopters for rescuing fishermen. They are not winning a war against anyone except Iceland or Costa Rica.

@ClubofInfo-Circulation - As an American who has spent a decent amount of time abroad (including a significant amount of time in South America), I can say that I've always found people to be welcoming and pretty nice. Mostly they ask about how things are in the US, and I ask them how things are going in their country. The usual stuff you talk about at bars and such. I've never felt "hated" anywhere I've traveled in SA, Europe or Asia.

@danmorgan3685 - Well, someone drank the Chavista Kool-Aid. If the U.S. really wanted to 'attack' Venezuela, overturn its government or decapitate its regime – it would've been done by now. "Regime change" in Venezuela could be accomplished by a single MQ-9 strike that would take all of five minutes of the Pentagon's day. As for starvation, Maduro accomplished that on his own.

@danmorgan3685 - Imperialism? Dude, most countries in the world are pains in the ass to run. The ones that aren't generally consist of our allies. Who, exactly, does the U.S. want to colonize?

@lairdriver - I get the sense you haven't spent much time in this part of the world. Venezuela is not Mexico. Narcos only exist because the government effectively pays them to exist since they serve a dual role as a paramilitary. These groups would cease to exist and their members (who are mostly just local people with guns and motorcycles) would likely find legitimate jobs and be re-integrated into society. Will there be some radicals? Sure. But this isn't the Middle East either.

@ricardoguanipa8275 - Bingo. A man who knows his stuff. Maracaibo, in particular, is important because of its port. Clearing and securing a route (highway 6?) between these two cities would effectively provide an unlimited supply line and would also keep the border areas in check.

@ShatteredStarz - They sent a few dozen guys to fix equipment after the damn electricity went out and screwed up the SAM systems. Calling them "Russian troops" is kinda silly. They are not there for combat. It would be as if we sent the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers somewhere to fix an American weapons platform that some dumb government allowed to fall into disrepair.

@danmorgan3685 - Uhh, okay. Contempt. Cool!

They only need to hold off until the fellow members of the Commonwealth plus the U.S. arrives. I wouldn't be surprised if France would want in as well. Australia could, without any doubt, be defended – but they would need to go it alone for a little while. Even with that said, the U.S. could send its strategic bombers on runs where needed almost immediately, including B-1s to deploy LRSAMs against incoming transport ships.

Well, it's happening...

@Steve Higgins - No, they flew over a nuclear capable bomber that the U.S. didn't even bother to intercept. Shows you how much we give a crap about a Tu-160 Caribbean patrol in 2019, lol.
