  1. No, it is not a joke. Russia has quietly agreed, for a long while, to decline attacking Israeli aircraft operating in the region. Even before many of their S-300/400 batteries were redeployed to Ukraine, they did not fire upon the IAF, just as they did not fire upon American aircraft in the region. The only targeting of an Israeli plane came from an ancient S-200 battery run by the Syrians themselves. There is no gain for Russia in shooting down an IAF plane. For one thing, the IAF would make sure those batteries cease to exist fairly quickly, and Israel could become a thorn in Russia's side in Ukraine if it wanted to be.
