You guys are living in the past. The only flare-up will occur if Maduro gets desperate and tries, as a last-ditch move to prop up nationalism, to fight Colombia. Not that this will go well, since Colombia and the US are very tight and the US has been looking for an excuse to remove the Chavistas for 20 years. You'd see massive Colombian ground forces combined with US air support. It'd be over quickly, but the question would be whether to take San Cristobal and move south to Caracas to forcibly occupy the capital and oust Maduro.

@ilo3456 - The number of HVTs would decrease by the hour once things start to go south. Everyone in the military is willing to change sides. It's the ideological Chavistas that would need to be captured in order to fracture the regime: Delcy Rodriguez, Jorge Rodriguez, Tarek Saab and a few others. Actually, given his ties to Iran and Hezbollah, Saab strikes me as the highest of the HVTs in a big picture sense. At one time, I'm sure Maduro could have negotiated himself into running a bus route in Moscow (US and Putin would've put differences aside for the greater good), but now that he's been indicted in Miami, he'll be locked away in a U.S. prison like Noriega for the rest of his life should his regime fall.

Argentina has attempted to purchase new multirole planes on several occasions to modernize its air force (Gripen, Rafale, Mirage 2000) but the UK has blocked all of the sales since there are UK parts in all of these planes and/or they requested the US block American parts from being transferred (and the US will normally adhere to British requests given the "special relationship" policy). The obvious answer for Argentina is to turn to Russia and buy Su-35s, but they are expensive. My personal prediction is that you will see Argentina purchase JF-17s from China/Pakistan. It is a short-sighted policy, in my view, to deny Argentina the basic opportunity to protect its sovereign borders. We're going to push them into the arms of the Russians or Chinese.
