US forces would be too distracted by the casinos, beaches and speedboats to bother fighting.

@Abdallahzyx - Realistically, if the US was to pull its support of Israel, they would align with the Russians. Israel and Russia have been "frenemies" for years, but have always kept up decent bilateral relations. Russia, no doubt, would much rather have a wealthy, capable, technologically sound ally in the middle east rather than the likes of Syria and Iran. A Russia-Israel alliance would be something for the ages. Imagine Elta and Rafael working on avionics for Sukhoi combat aircraft, for example, plus Israeli upgrades to an already potent S-400 system. There is a very good reason the US maintains such a strong alliance with Israel. They are a powerful and ultra-valuable partner.

@BulgarChanyu - Turkey is bogged down fighting the Kurds and continuing its pointless tit-for-tat with Greece. If Turkey devoted its forces to an invasion of Israel, they would be instantly kicked out of NATO, and Greece (potentially supported by the US and NATO via proxy) would retake all of Cyprus and disputed islands, followed by combat air patrols that would result in shoot-downs every time a Turkish plane crossed into the newly-defined airspace. This would be a disastrous move for Turkey. Remember, it looks like Greece is well on its way to acquiring F-35s while Turkey missed their shot at a fifth-gen platform (at least for quite a number of years to come).

@Habs1967 - As long as Europe's defense from Russia depends on the US, which it does, there will be tacit support for Israel. Also, besides neutrality, what is Europe's potential role? Allying with rogue middle eastern states that have nurtured those who have carried out terror attacks in France, Spain, UK, etc.?

A wide scale chemical and biological attack on another nation state makes this much, much more of a serious affair. Western powers would get involved at that point and likely oust the regime that carried out those types of attacks and occupy Egypt until its offensive capabilities are completely dismantled.

Russia wanted an air and naval presence in the middle east. By taking the side of Assad in the Syrian Civil War, they got it. I highly doubt Russia gives all that much of a damn who runs Syria as long as they have a seat at the table.

@bebomahgoub - I haven't seen a movie since 2006. On the contrary, I've spent most of my life traveling across the world for my job. I know how things work. ;)

@AbdooMs EG - The best combat aircraft currently in the Egyptian arsenal is from... wait for it... *France*, not Russia.

It's also one of the only times he's even broached the topic of allies being involved. I'd actually like to see some more comparisons where all factors are considered, including morale, training, allies, etc. Possibly not nuclear capability because that is a war-ender (and possibly world ender).

With this increase in strength, however, comes more responsibility. Egypt cannot play games anymore. The political sensibilities of Russia and France, as well as the US, will have to be considered. Egypt cannot simply begin invading its neighbors with all of that foreign military equipment without considering how Russia feels about its machinery going up against its US counterparts in Israel. Russia, ultimately, does not want conflict with major powers. France is also a NATO member state. I can't speak to Egypt individually, but many of these foreign military sales contracts require certain consideration given to the source country, especially when used for offensive operations.

@bebomahgoub - If a country widely deploys chemical or biological weapons against a civilian populace in 2020, the regime leading that country is not going to exist for long. In theory, yes, it would involve an occupation. I think you are seriously underestimating the gravity of a chemical or biological attack. If there is anything that would, frankly, galvanize the entire world in its resolve to eliminate a government, it would be this. Yes, there would be many casualties, but once chem/bio weapons are launched, there is no going back. You would likely even have a formal declaration of war by the U.S.

@Omar-df3uk - I don't make the rules of the world, I just study them. But yes, in theory, bio/chem weapons are "worse" than nuclear weapons in the collective sphere of the defense community. This is generally driven by the MAD concept in that nuclear weapons are a deterrent while bio/chem weapons are offensive in nature and have historically been used on civilian populations.

@midothunderstorm7738 - Anyone "can" use anything they want. But there are consequences. Israel is best friends with the U.S. and cozy with Russia behind the scenes. They've even forged positive partnerships with Muslim-majority neighbors. Israel using a nuclear device in pure self-defense versus another country using chemical and biological weapons offensively against either opposing troops or civilians would be viewed much differently on the world stage and come with extremely different consequences. That is simply the reality of the situation.
