@jimcabezola3051 I don't see why it's "sad." The reality is that some technological developments and experiments simply can't be undertaken by a corporation because it may end up failing, or losing money, or simply be unfeasible. That is not fair to shareholders and could even destabilize the company. Remember, Boeing is important to America – it's our last manufacturer or large aircraft. The government, on the other hand, does not have to make a profit – and can fund an experiment that MAY end up benefiting society as a whole. If it fails, it will have cost some tax dollars, but it's not going to take down a company or the US airline manufacturing sector with it.
