Since this was an act of Congress, don't expect it to ever change. Any member of congress who proposes a law to get rid of the 1,500 hour rule will be portrayed by the opposing party as "The Congressman who voted cut safety requirements for flying." Doesn't matter which side of the aisle, it would be the same in either direction. In today's heated environment, I can already picture families of crash victims appearing in advertisements blaming the congress member for their relatives' deaths. Sadly, no one will take on this risk any time soon unless it becomes utterly dire and has almost unwavering bipartisan support.
