In your country and mine, this is almost certainly true. But if you know, rather objectively, that you will never have an impact by becoming involved in "politics" aside from harassment and intimidation by the government (maybe even something more severe) I can see why these people feel the way they do. For them, no changes for the better can come out of an interest in politics – only for the worse when the government cracks down. In many ways, I can't blame them, especially after more than a century of multi-generational repression under varying forms of government.

There's a reality here: a 15 year prison sentence, harassment and intimidation by the government, a potential loss of housing or employment, etc. can all come from opposing the government. Those are powerful factors. Disgusting, of course, but it's difficult to judge these people without the stakes being as high for someone like me in the west.

@liammarshall-butler3384 Huh? Most Americans would tell you it was a war started after the government lied to us, and the rest of the world, about its purpose. Two of the people who said that have since been elected president. Think that could happen in Russia?
