It's actually 40,000 people in a country of 50 million. Most Colombians want to live, work and enjoy their communities without kidnapping and murders. Drugs are decriminalized in Colombia. The people who are in jail need to be there. In recent years, Colombia reduced its kidnapping rate by more than 98 percent. The system is working.

There are plenty of good jobs in Colombia. It has a bustling and growing middle class. Even the former slums in Medellin are becoming beautiful and desirable places to live. There's no excuses here.

Because most of them are a variation of either "orange man bad" or "radical marxists/BLM good." Real stories about what's going on the world with context (although this one lacks this is a little bit) are what we expected – and got – for years from Vice.

Weird. There are 50 million people in Colombia. 40,000 are in prison. I guess the other 49,060,000 are wealthy.

Noticed the same thing. This reporter knows what that offense is and CHOSE not to report the entire story. This video could have been interesting and conclusive, but was presented in a very slanted and dishonest manner. I wonder what else was left out in order to prove whatever political point she was trying to make.

- Huh? I've been to Colombia plenty of times. Airport security is exactly the same as everywhere else in the world. Why would someone slip free drugs into your suitcase, and when would they even do so? Small amounts of drugs are decriminalized anyway, so you'd need to be carrying kilos of the stuff and, somehow, not notice it. That makes no sense.

Yes, the conditions are poor and should be improved. But do we really want someone who is serving 37 years for kidnapping and two murders to be let out of jail? Should we pretend he will not simply go back to a life of crime? The list of violent crime exceptions to the "get out of jail free because of corona" law didn't seem that unreasonable to me. Anyone here actually spent time in Colombia? Because I have. And it's wonderful to walk the streets knowing you won't be kidnapped, assaulted or robbed at gunpoint. It's a beautiful country that is finally overcoming years of crime and chaos on the streets. I don't want to go back to the "good ol days."
