  1. No, they're not. There are not enough Gripen-E airframes in existence to support a squadron, much less two or three which would be needed to counter the Russian threat. They may be provided some training on a Gripen--C, but their final airframe will almost certainly be the F-16. There are thousands of them available, and they can launch essentially all western weapons except for a few American long range missiles that require the use of a strategic bomber. And while the Gripen-E is marginally more suitable for austere operations, it is NOT a MiG-29 with alternative intakes on top of the fuselage to avoid FOD.
