The Russians don't call it the Eastern Front. that's where Sargent Shultz was afraid to go to.

The magic of Poland joining the EU was that that they initially provided cheaper labor into the EU and it was not a bad thing.

When I was eight years old my grandfather lived on a dirt road, had a pot belly stove, hand pump sink inside his shanty with an out house. We had a family of six and grew up with two baths. But my grandfather had a BW TV with UHF, and we did not have that. At that time I was jealous of the UHF channels

Ukraine claimed to only lose 30,000 troops and they say they need 500,000. I don;'t know.Mark, do the math.
17
Anybody who thinks Russia will lose a war of attrition is truly foolish and unread in the subjects of language, economic history, social history, history and military history .
11
Nizhny Novgorod vs Detroit - do that one just for kicks and giggles.
10
Somehow Russia is outproducing NATO and the USA combined when it comes to critical military ordnance.
8
Mark, please expose you economic skill and explain why China stop exporting a certain ingredient to make our 155MM rounds while Russia turns out to be the beneficiary of such transactions.
7
Interesting Star trek references, they are normally based on somewhat obscure history.
6
Russia has the industrial capacity and the West is not producing enough to fight this war. It truly is the opposite what you say. Europe is not coming through.
6
Boston is not representative of the United States. The "capital" of New England the only safe walkable city in the whole country. Riddle me this, would you rather take the subway in Philadelphia or any city in Russia that has a subway? What is the price for safety?
5
Russia paying reparations? Are you serious?
5
@Lasse65 Sure buddy: According to the 2001 census, 77% of Crimean inhabitants named Russian as their native language; 11.4% – Crimean Tatar; and 10.1% – Ukrain
5
I just played 1776 against myself.
5
You know who had no Idea? The Tartars, French and the Germans in that order.
5
They were still putting in lead pipe in the USA in the 80s. Know anything about plumbing?
4
Mark, your tactical combat ratios are correct with all things being equal but there are numerous considerations: 1)Airpower 2)Attrition man power 3) Attrition munitions production 4) Americans certainly don't won't to fight for Russian speaking areas of the "Ukraine" . 5) I could come up with five or more considerations, not including all the material that we still import from Russia. Any economist that is worth his salt would understand the attrition ratio. Ukrainians have very little in trained reserves or conscripts, there conscription... ...well you know their conscription... It's not want and it does not matter what I want, these are the facts.
4
Ukraine is free? They cancelled their elections.
4
Russia is humongous, expecting "indoor plumbing" in extreme rural Russia is not going to happen, In the 1940s some of our states were 40 percent non indoor plumbing. Russia is a generation or two behind us, what's new? Well, what's not new it that their public transit systems in cities are more efficient, cheaper, cleaner and safer compared to the USA. Besides perhaps NYC and Boston, American cities are unsafe, un walkable and uninteresting.
4
St. Petersburg is now Finish land?
4
@jamesdean1143 Propaganda is talking about currency when a war of attrition is showing it's age.
4
@turtle-frogs Russia exports food. What are you talking about?
4
@EconLessons Certain Czars banned capital punishment. Lot of smart people here that never read a book about Russian history.
3
Mark, thank you for the economic information. Ukraine is running out of troops, they fail to in-script young men, they will not have trained troops and it does not matter if the West pays for the Ukrainian civil service. it's a war of economic attrition more than a military war. The only Grande Armie that I know of was Napoleon's invasion of Russia.
3
What a reach.
3
We grew up with lead pipes. Who know's what's in those Pex plastic and how do you know?
3
Napoleon said a armie travels on its stomach. if you think you can expect Joe Biden to put food on your families' table...
3
@jasperchance3382 Not many Ukrainian speaking people in Crimea, and before 1800, they were mostly slaves exported by the Ottomans if they were in Crimea at all... ...man why can't the ignorant read history?
3
@dustinhamabata902 According to the 2001 census, 77% of Crimean inhabitants named Russian as their native language; 11.4% – Crimean Tatar; and 10.1% – Ukrain
3
Why would Russia surrender, and to who?
3
@EconLessons Yes and according to the 2001 census, 77% of Crimean inhabitants named Russian as their native language; 11.4% – Crimean Tatar; and 10.1% – Ukraine I don't even have a dog in this fight....
3
Russians can absorb a 10-1 attrition rate if you really must know, It's estimated that 10 million people fled the Ukraine. Good god man, do the math.
3
Economists are terrible in predicting the future, so riddle me this, who destroyed the pipeline?
3
If I was a betting man, what would be the the over/under when Russia pays reparations? The assumption is such an impossibility that there would never be a book for that bet. Reparations are for the losers, and trust me, the Russians are not going to lose this war. The Russian Army is much larger than before this conflict began. They are changing up fresh battalions on the front while Ukraine is running out of ammunition. personal and GDP. These are the facts.
3
How come the deaths in Ethiopia and Burma not important to you. Far more deaths in these wars yet Ukraine's more important to you, and the major media...
2
Mark , you really need to understand the economies of warfare. Ukraine will run out of fresh and motivated formations..... ... it's not going to happen.
2
It's a full geared war economy, not much difference from FDR's was economy.
2
The economics of Plumbing has very little to do with pex pipes; water is really easy to bring in, hot water a little harder, but waste is the hard part. Russia has always been a few generations behind USA consumers, just not in the military and nuclear sectors where they are close to the USA.
2
@jmanakajosh9354 He moved there for tax reasons, they always move away from the state that they overtaxed.
2
How come the Ukrainians cancelled their elections when we Americans are "fighting for democracy"? Speaking of puppets, FJB.
2
Ukraine is as corrupt as Hamas. And you know it.
2
Can't talk about grand masters with out Bobby F.
2
Bristol guy looking at New Jersey as we speak. Respectfully, those two cities are not remotely the same. Boston is about a third the size. Boston and NYC (maybe Philly) are the only safe walkable cities in this country. Most US cities were hardly ever walkable (Dallas, San Diego) and other walkable cities (St Louis, Cleveland, Memphis San Fran) are no longer safe to walk. I can go to Kadakoy, a neighborhood in Istanbul and walk safely at 3am and still purchase liquor., how is that for freedom. @EconLessons
2
@EconLessons We all grew up with lead pipes, they did not stop using (using) lead until the 1980s. It was used well after that.
2
I grew up playing these games, Battle of the Bulge in 1972 when I was eleven years old. Played the giant War in The East where as the Russian player you had actually use your resources to produce units. also played the Pacific version. That being said, I always thought a one die roll was always BS, the probabilities are much more accurate with a two dice system like the game 1776 with plus and minus based on terrain, entrenchments and artillery. The problem right now, is Ukraine is running out personal and nothing can change that. Russia will not run out of personal. Russia will win this war, anybody who studies military history or even more so economic history knows this.
2
Young Ukrainians don't want to fight in a losing war. They are running out of recruits and ammo as NATO can't outproduce Russia in ordnance, these are the facts. Russia is on a war economy, The Tarters, Poles, French, and Germans... ...and now, some obscure Hetman?
2
BRICS is not going to help anybody in BRICS. Let's face it it, there are only about ten acceptable currencies out of 140+. USD GBP, YEN, EURO, Swiss franc, ok, five, currencies tied to USD like JOD or Panama does not count. I guess the Canadian and Australian dollars would be decent in their regions.
2
It's all over, the king has finally been exposed, the major media can no longer hide this charade. It's amazing how Orwell predicted all of this and in an age of unlimited information we have these un-read morons telling us that it's raining when actually ....
2
"Pete Buttigieg or Gretchen Whitmer." One couldn't even fix the potholes and the other shut down her state. President Trump is going to take Michigan because of Whitmer's policies.
2
@jasperchance3382 The history of how non Russian Communists gave Russian land to the artificially created state Ukraine SSR?
