  1. Surprising they were given such good treatment after being so unpleasant. Calling someone a "liar" when you're in the wrong is not an endearing trait. "Unfortunately you have missed your flight because you arrived too late. There is nothing we can do." End of story.

To counter this, people can easily smuggle liquor miniatures onboard or they fill mini mouth wash bottles with booze. Providing the container is 4 fluid ounces or less, you can get it through security. And it's also very likely he was at the airport bar prior to the flight.

And it's very likely they were drinking their own booze at the airport while waiting to board their flight. Next time you see that guy sitting at the gate chugging on a water bottle, it may well be vodka he brought with him in the small bottles like I mentioned. And it's so easy to slip into a toilet stall and empty all those miniatures into a 'water' bottle.
