  32. I love Islay whisky. So Scotland is my country of choice. That said, if you've tried some japanese brands it's quite obvious that they've taken inspiration from Scotland first and foremost while making them. It's really nice.

My favourite whiskys come from Islay in Scotland (Ardbeg, Laphroaig, Caol Ila, Bruchladdich, Bunnahabhain, Bowmore among others) But I've tried some Japanese whiskys too (Yamazaki being the one I remember most) and they make quite good whisky. While they're not as smoky and peaty as islay whisky, they definitely resemble Scottish whisky in taste and smell. I can drink American whiskey/Tenessee style whiskey too I guess, but they're usually too sweet and fruity for my taste. I like it when it smells like freshly tarred boat and tastes like alcohol, death and an ashtray. :P
