  1. Well, the proponents of democracy has repeatedly undermined democracy. First by enforcing a "representative democracy" where voters have no direct say in policy. Then they introduced all manner of "exceptions" to democratic rule, like special protections for minority groups. Then they hollowed out and undermined freedom of speech (can't say this or that in case somebody gets offended) It seems that the longer western democracy goes on, the more the people in power chip away at the core foundations of democracy and we're left with some nonsensical half-measure that has little in common with actual democracy.
