Wasn't just airmen who acted in a very gallant and honourable manner during WW1. While the fighting in the trenches was brutal, POW's were treated with respect in ways that we would never see again. Then there's also the famous Christmas Truce where soldiers on both sides silenced their guns, went over into no man's land and exchanged gifts and played football with the enemy. As we all know, WWII was an entirely different beast and brutality overtook honour and dignity on all sides.
