  1. Blackbelt = you've mastered all the moves of the art. You know the punches, kicks, holds and throws. How and when to apply them is a different story. That's something you can only learn through experience against uncooperative opponents. It's more about instinct and intuition at that point combined with the muscle memory you have hopefully learned by the time you get the black belt.

  2. This period was a great time for Karate. Seen some videos lately showing side by side karate competitions comparing modern day to what it was like in the 80's. And it was definitely faster and more full contact in the 80's compared to now.
