Shouldn't Jon Venables have been prosecuted for disclosing information about Jon Venables? I mean if the law as written doesn't make an exception for Jon Venables himself, then he would be comitting a crime by revealing his true identity to other people.

I'd argue that joking about the death of any real child is pretty reprehensible. It's not really the same as dead baby jokes, because with dead baby jokes, the baby in question is usually completely made up or hypothetical. But actually cracking jokes about a real dead child, it kinda stops being funny. Not purely because it's offensive, but more because the person doing it seems to try a bit too hard going for a shock factor. Nobody likes tryhards in general.

Can"t seem to recall that I ever called for a "ban" of anything? 🤔

Brandon Piperjack Free speech is fine, but I'd argue that it doesn't extend to making uninvited calls or contacting people directly. You're free to express anything in "the public square". But when you send mail to someone or call them or invade their social media spaces to bombard them with insults or offensive statements, then you're not really engaging in freedom of speech but harassment.

Brandon Piperjack Well antagonizing anyone through private channels in an unsoliticed manner would be, in my opinion. Some platforms can be considered "public squares". But others are not (telephone numbers, email adresses, private profiles on social media etc.) Then there's the nature of the contact too. Like sending ONE DM or email or whatever where you state your disagreement with someone is okay. But sending dick pics or insulting the person because you dislike them is not.
