Just because your brain is temporarily behaving in a chemically induced, abnornal manner, it doesn't prove that you are somehow "transported to a higher plane of existence" or some new age nonsense like that. People with various mental illnesses like paranoid schizophrenia and the like also exhibit various neural connections that normal people do not have, and naturally that results in auditory and visual hallucinations for them. But you don't run around believing that people confined to the mad house are some kind of "meditation gurus who saw beyond the dimensional veil of time and space" or some shit like that, do you? No, you dismiss them as simply being crazy. As in not right in the head, which is an objectively true assessment since their brain anatomy and chemistry DOES MEASURABLY DIFFER from normal/sane people. In principle, these illnesses are no different than the experiences had while under the influence of psychadelics, except for the fact that the intoxication period of psychadelics goes away after the drugs pass from your system, whereas the mental illness is permanent. It's all just a brain that is malfunctioning. There is nothing "spiritual" or otherworldly about it.

He's got some crazy beliefs though. And he doesn't exactly come across as sane or reasonable when rambling about shit that basically sounds like a Lovecraft novel as if it was real. Now if he believes these things on a personal, spiritual level, then that's his business. I find every single christian in the world to be just as nutty in that regard. But what most christians can do, and Alex Jones clearly can't, is function in a secular society and making secular, rational arguments while keeping their spiritual beliefs as a private matter. When Alex sperg out about interdimensional demon vampires and the Hollywood cults that supposedly torture children in worshipping them, I find it about as obscene as when various sexual deviants feel the urge to share some TMI about what they enjoy in the bedroom.

@legrand3774 : You don't have a soul, and your mind is not "special". That's just a Disney-fantasy delusion on your part. I don't have a soul either. Nobody does. Your brain does not allow you to "percieve" anything. It is your sensory organs that allows perception. Eyes, ears, tastebuds, olfactory senses, nerve endings experiencing touch etc. I don't care what drugs your own that happen to mess up the processing facility to your sensory organs, you can't "perceive" something that isn't there physically speaking. The only perception you are capable of is the narrow band of the lightwave spectrum which your eyes permit you to see. The same goes for the soundwave spectrum. You are not a bat, nor are you an owl or a shark. And no amount of drugs will ever make you "sense" anything of what the ears of a bat, the eyes of an owl, or the electrical sensory apparatus that Sharks are evolved with. I am not "arrogant" for stating this. I go with the hard, measurable science of physics and biology. If your drug induced hallucinations cannot be measured by more objective instruments, then whatever tou think you see isn't real. It's that simple. And when your brain dies, whatever consciousness you have will invariably die with it, just as the light disappears when the matter based lightbulb breaks.

@legrand3774 : Yes, because psychadelics will cause you to hallucinate things you wouldn't have been able to imagine, which upsets your perspective of reality. But just because a drug induced fantasy is vivid enough to unsettle your perception of reality, it doesn't mean that it was anything but a drug induced fantasy. There are no "magic potions" that will let you see actual ghosts and goblins that are simply "hiding" from non-drug users.

@legrand3774 : Sorry lad, I'm not falling for that one. My point of view is the scientific consensus. Your view is the one making extraordinary claims along the lines of the supernatural ramblings of Alex Jones. Therefore the burden of proof falls on you, not me.

@NewRomancer37 I don't have to. I can observe the effects of what happens to others doing it to conclude that it's not a very bright idea. Smart people learn from their mistakes. Geniuses learn from the mistakes of others.

@Flipindabird23 : They make you passive and introverted. Pacified as you amaze at the pretty colours and lights that you hallucinate. They're not stimulants in the way that cocaine or amphetamines are. Stoned is an apt description, even if they might not incorporate the numbing and sluggishness of cannabinoids.

@legrand3774 : My point of view is proven by scientific consensus. I don't need to waste my time explaining it to you. Whether i'm "unimaginative" or not is irrelevant. What you need to understand is that just because you can imagine something, it doesn't make that something a reality. I can imagine flying, firebreathing dragons. It doesn't mean that they exist or will exist.

ShekelShirker No, the evidence stacked against Epstein is pretty damning. But whether they did it due to a belief in the occult, or if they did it out of more secular, and sexual perversions is harder to say. But IF they did it for occult reasons, then all the more reason why logic and rationality should oppose religious superstition even harder, since religious beliefs in the occult clearly inspire wealthy people to do sick and depraved shit towards children.

ShekelShirker "Smart" is not the same as wisdom or experience. Being smart helps if you want to engage in science. But smarts alone will not buy the wisdom and experience coming from it. Only time, effort and experimentation does. (scientists learn the most from their failures, not from their success) If these supposed occultists really wanted to understand the universe, they wouldn't dabble in the occult. They would pursue careers in science and get that hard earned experience and insight in the process. The trappings of occultism is usually some far fetched idea that you can purchase wisdom through supernatural shortcuts (deals with the devil, forbidden knowledge and similar tropes). But that doesn't work in the real world. So while a character like Epstein might be smart, that in itself is not some sort of quality assurance of his potentially occult beliefs. His beliefs (if he really had them, which is yet to be proven) only show that he's lazy and impatient. He tried to make bargains with demons (that don't even exist) in order to acquire knowledge a quicker way than what science would've gotten him if he really applied himself and put in the required elbowgrease. Or to condence my argument: A theoretical model by Albert Einstein is not more "valid" just because Einstein proposed it. It's valid on it's own merit since anyone else could test it and reach the same logical conclusion as Einstein did.

ShekelShirker : I'll take that challenge. Perform some occult ritual where you summon a real life demon from some alternate dimension into the physical world. Then tell me how to perform the same ritual myself so I can replicate the results. I'm not a bigot. I won't dismiss your theory out of hand. So here's your chance to prove to me that there's any kind of merit in occult beliefs.

ShekelShirker We wouldn't struggle replicating those structures today. The pyramids of the pharaos and the like are only amazing due to it's temporal context. But comparing any of these wonders to your average skyscraper makes the ancient wonders seem like childs play in terms of structural engineering. The reason why we don't explore these "alternate paragdimes" is because modern science has surpassed them in every measurable way. If ancient egyptians saw the kind of bridges we erect today, they'd believe it was magic. Because to their understanding of engineering, those bridges shouldn't be standing. They should collapse under their own weight. Or something so insignificant as a smartphone would be a miraculous wonder to them, since they had no chance of replicating one with their limited understanding of physics and elecrical engineering. I'm not bashing their achievements here. They did great things with the contemporary knowledge and materials available to them. But they just don't compare to what we have built today and will build in the future.

@MrMoo272 : They found nothing but people tripping. They illegalized LSD since they naively thought that you could stop a drug from being used recreationally by going after the people who create a demand for it, rather than going after the suppliers. But that's just shoddy policework and bad politics. It's not proof of some "conspiracy" to keep people from finding some secret through using LSD.
