@Mark_Knight Sometimes you do need to rush into things. Sometimes failing to seize the initiative leaves you with a worse result than "rushing" with things going badly. And when you have 150 cops outside, simple mathematics would've been on their side. Some cops might've died storming the school, but they could've stopped the shooter from killing more kids. A couple of dead cops is a small price to pay if it means making sure some more kids would live. And yes i'm willing to put my own life on the line in such a situation too, despite not being a cop. If a kid lives because I died while taking out the shooter, then that's a fair trade. Simple as.

Apparently, there is a stupid scotus court ruling that says that american police officers are not obliged to put their own lives at risk to save citizens from danger. To me that sounds completely idiotic since part of the very role of a police officer is accepting that you may have to put your life at risk to protect people. It's their freaking duty! Why should anyone accept policing from some yellow bellied coward who will just flee at the first sign of danger and let people get killed under his watch?

Been saying something similar for a long time. If "just following orders" was not a valid defense during the Nüremberg trials, it damn sure is not a valid defense for modern day cops either.
