Aspartame is not banned by the EU. You'll find it's an artificial sweetener in many beverages on the market.

@nforne It probably wasn't as nice for your parents though. Living under the perpetual threat of nuclear war between Nato and the USSR. For us who grew up as kids in the 90's and were born in the late 80's you definitely had a sense that our parents and a lot of adults were kind of happy, hopeful and celebratory in a way. Because the Berlin wall got torn down and divisions between the east and west were mending. Of course all of that is over now that the east and the west are on the warpath again.

@nforne Of course. I mostly adressed the parents here because a lot of parents, and sometimes schoolteachers, understandably did what they could to shelter children from their own fears. But a lot of kids would naturally be aware of the giant exclamation mark that is The bomb as well. Today kids are brainwashed with little attempt at sheltering with global climate crisis. So for me being a kid in the 90's, I kinda feel that I was an in betweener. The threat of nuclear war was gone for the most part (usually only visible within movie fiction) and the radical greens had yet to gain much clout or traction. And again, everyone was pretty happy that the Cold war was over. So it was a decent period of time to grow up in.

It's ironic how cartoons from the 90's only had "buy the merch" as a message. Yet people remember them fondly. Whereas cartoons of today centered around woke indoctrination will only be forgotten.
